La storia

In April 1884 Pissarro moved his family to Éragny-sur-Epte, a village near Gisors north-west of Paris, where living was cheap and a large household could be kept on very little. From the property he rented there he could look across the water meadows of the Epte to the next village along, Bazincourt. He started painting that view in his first year, and this farm belongs to that first group. He went back to it for the remaining 19 years of his life, more than 40 times, in snow, in haze, at every hour the light was worth having. He bought the house in 1892 with money lent to him by Monet, and died there in 1903.
