La storia
This is Stockholm's oldest known depiction in colour, showing a ring of sun dogs and halos reported over the city on 20 April 1535. The reformer Olaus Petri read those lights in the sky as a warning from God and had the scene painted for his congregation. The original from 1535 is lost. What survives is a faithful copy made in 1636, long taken for the restored original, which is why the surviving version carries a later date and hand than the event it records.
