История
Honfleur in 1856 was a working harbour, and Boudin painted it on a wooden panel small enough to hold in one hand, about 20 centimetres by 26, signed and dated in the lower left corner. Working outdoors like this was a fairly new practical option. Paint in sealed metal tubes had only been on sale for about 15 years, and the habit of finishing a picture in front of the motif was still being worked out by the painters who gathered at the Saint-Siméon farm on the hillside above the town. The panel later belonged to Frank Jewett Mather, who taught art history at Princeton and ran the university's museum, and his widow gave it there in 1957.
