故事
Boudin dated this canvas 11 October 1895 and painted it on the spot, with the season at Trouville over. Thirty years earlier he had made his name on this same sand, painting the parasols and crinolines of Parisians who came down once the railway reached the Normandy coast in 1863. Those beach scenes sold well enough that he kept making them for the rest of his life. Here the visitors have gone home, one fisherwoman stands far off, and the sky takes up most of the picture, which was the part he cared about. He wrote the date, the place and the state of the weather on the backs of his studies, like a log. He was 71 here, and died three years later at Deauville, a few miles along the same coast.
