故事
Alessandro Vittoria was the busiest sculptor in Venice, and he understood display. Several times in his life he had himself painted holding one of his own works, and five such portraits hung near the studio in his house, where a client waiting to discuss a commission would see them. Veronese made this one around 1580, when Vittoria was about 55. It served as an advertisement as much as a likeness. The object in his hands is the model for his marble Saint Sebastian, cut in the early 1560s for the church of San Francesco della Vigna, and by the time Veronese painted him that statue had been standing in the church for nearly twenty years.
