故事
Pissarro moved his family to Louveciennes, a village on the road running west out of Paris towards Versailles, in 1869, and painted that road again and again in different weather. Within weeks of finishing this canvas he sold it to George Lucas, an American from Baltimore who lived in Paris and bought pictures for clients back home. That sale is why the painting still exists. In the autumn of 1870 the Prussian army came up the same road. Pissarro had gone to London, troops were quartered in his house, and the canvases stacked there were used to keep boots out of the mud in the garden. Almost everything he had painted before 1870 went that way, something like 1,500 works by the usual estimate.
