The story
In Roman myth Aurora is the dawn, who rises ahead of the sun every morning and opens the way for it. Pellegrini paints her as a winged young woman in yellow and red, holding up a burning torch against a pale blue sky and pink cloud, with a small cherub's head watching from the clouds beside her. The museum describes the bright colours and airy elegance of these canvases as typically Venetian and unique in the Netherlands. In the story told overhead she is the one in the middle, with the Night already retreating from her and Apollo following close behind.
