The story
The Prado's record for this landscape is unusually short. No year, only the 19th century. The painter is given as attributed to Alfred Sisley rather than as Sisley outright, and the museum offers no description of the picture at all. What is documented is how it arrived. Madrid's Museo de Arte Moderno bought the canvas in 1950. In February 1971 that museum was dissolved, its 20th-century holdings going to a new museum of contemporary art and its 19th-century collection, more than 3,000 works, passing to the Prado. This landscape travelled with them. It measures 48 by 67 centimetres and is not currently on display.
