The story

Marco Palmezzano signed this panel along the bottom and dated it 1493, adding, as he nearly always did, that he came from Forlì. In those same years he was at work on the walls of the Feo chapel in the church of San Biagio there, painting frescoes from Melozzo's designs. The chapel was the thing his town was proudest of.

On 10 December 1944 a German bomb aimed at a supply store nearby hit San Biagio instead, and the chapel was destroyed. What survives of it is a set of photographs the Alinari studio took in 1938.

Around the throne here stand John the Baptist, Peter, Dominic and Mary Magdalene. Brera keeps the panel in store rather than on the walls.
