The story

A girl carries a basket heaped with flowers of every colour on her head, one arm raised to hold it steady. She wears a blue dress laced at the front with a yellow ribbon, a white apron and a white cap over fair hair. Behind her the painter fitted a whole outdoor scene, with clouds on one side and a bank of shrubs on the other, onto a piece of ivory less than eight centimetres high. The Rijksmuseum dates the miniature to the second half of the 1800s. Its gilt oval frame is edged with a row of tiny beads and finished with a ribbon bow.
