Miniature of a Woman with a Veil, from the Dolls' House of Petronella Dunois
Details
The story
Seen in profile and turned to the left, this woman wears a black dress with a white lace-edged shawl. Over her dark, high-dressed hair falls a lace veil so thin that the hair shows through it, painted in watercolour and gouache on a piece of ivory about five centimetres high. The miniature dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is exactly the size of the portrait of a woman in green resting her head on her hand, from the same dolls' house, and both sit in the same kind of gilt oval frame with a ribbon bow on top.
