Nude in Profile towards the Right
Details
The story
For a long time this canvas went by a single word, Nude. Munch painted it in 1898: a woman standing at full length, turned to the right, her arms folded under her breast, her red-gold hair falling loose down her back against a ground of greens and blues. Long, loose hair is one of the threads running through his pictures of women in the 1890s, and here it is almost the whole event. In 1910 it was bought by Rasmus Meyer, a Bergen businessman who collected Norwegian art and bought Munch in quantity. Meyer died in 1916, his heirs gave the whole collection to the city of Bergen that same year, and since 1924 this nude has belonged to Rasmus Meyer's Collections, today part of KODE.
