One-Two
Details
The story
Kandinsky gave this small picture a German title, Eins-Zwei, one-two, and painted it in oil on cardboard about half a metre high. It dates from 1929, when he was teaching at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Two tall constructions of black line stand side by side. The one on the left ends in a soft patch of deep blue, the one on the right in a larger block of orange, and between them hang a small red triangle, point down, and a taller pale blue one. The ground behind is a mottled mix of pinks and browns. He marked the board with his monogram and the year 29 in the lower left corner. The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam bought it in 1964, and today it is kept in the museum's depot, a storage building that has been open to visitors since 2021.
