Portrait of a Woman
Details
The story
An unnamed sitter is not a gap in the record here. In the Paris exhibition world Ralli worked in, a single head or half-figure of a model counted as its own kind of picture, painted with no commission behind it, shown as a study and sold as one, and useful afterwards as material for a larger composition.
The canvas is 46 by 27 centimetres, narrow and upright. The National Gallery calls it simply Portrait of a Woman, gives it no year, and catalogues it as Pi 1091.
