Passeggiata in riva al mare
Dettagli
La storia
Sorolla painted this on the beach at Valencia in 1909, at the height of a career built on Mediterranean light. The two figures walking hand in hand along the shore are his own family, his wife Clotilde in front and his eldest daughter Maria beside her, their white dresses and veils lifting in the sea wind. He worked outdoors and fast, chasing the way strong sun bleaches cloth almost to nothing and throws violet shadows across it. There is no anecdote here and no drama, just two women moving through glare and breeze, the wet sand and the sea barely sketched behind them. The whole picture is really about that light on white fabric.
