ストーリー

Feliks Jasieński collected Japanese prints, thousands of them, at a time when almost nobody in Poland did. He took the nickname Manggha from Hokusai's sketchbooks and used it as a signature. In 1901 he showed part of the collection in Warsaw, the press there mocked it, and he packed everything up and moved to Kraków, where the younger painters treated him as an ally and queued up to portray him. Malczewski painted him two years later holding a portfolio of prints closed against his chest, with two satyrs at his shoulders in crowns of chestnut and apple blossom, the sort of creature Malczewski put into nearly every portrait he made. In 1920 Jasieński gave the whole collection, more than 15,000 objects, to the National Museum in Kraków, where the portrait hangs.
