逃亡埃及途中的歇息

故事
Around 1510 in Bruges, Gerard David took one of the least dramatic moments in the Gospels, a pause on the road, and made it feel like a family stopping to rest. The Virgin sits in a real landscape feeding the child a bunch of grapes, while far behind them Joseph reaches up to shake nuts down from a chestnut tree. The grapes are not just a snack. For a viewer of the time they pointed to the wine of the Mass and the blood of Christ, a small sign folded into an everyday gesture. David was known in Bruges for this kind of calm, and the picture was likely made for private prayer at home, meant to be looked at up close and often.
