The story

The Upper Rhenish Master is an anonymous artist active around 1410–20, possibly in Strasbourg. The artist is best known for the Paradiesgärtlein (Little Garden of Paradise), a small mixed-technique painting on oakwood now housed in the Städel Museum in Frankfurt. This work is considered the Städel's most celebrated example of the old German school and a masterpiece of International Gothic painting.
