Christ Blessing the Children, from the Dolls' House of Petronella Oortman

This is a whole fireplace in miniature, from another room of the same dolls' house. In the frame above the mantel, Christ sits among mothers who have brought him their children, one of them guiding a small child towards him, before a temple in a hilly landscape. The scene illustrates his words in the Gospels, let the little children come to me. Below, where the fire would burn, the hearth holds a painted fountain with a small Cupid standing on it, bow raised. The picture itself is 18.5 centimetres high, and Voorhout's signature on it has almost faded away.
