Drawing

Pascin learned to draw fast and without mercy as a young cartoonist for the satirical press in Munich, and that quick, watchful line never left him. His usual subject was a woman, half-dressed or nude, caught in an offhand pose that looks unposed, as though sketched before she noticed. This undated sheet is one of those drawings. Its home now is the national gallery of Bulgaria, the country Pascin left as a young man from the Danube town of Vidin, years before Paris made him the Prince of Montparnasse.
