Forest Landscape with an Open Vista at Left
Details
The story
The title the Belvedere gives this panel simply describes how it is built. A wall of old trees and rock fills most of the picture. On the left it opens onto a valley, with buildings on a hill and blue mountains beyond. Some of the leaves have already turned gold. Down on the sunlit track a small party passes through, a heavily loaded cart, a woman carrying a bundle on her head with a child beside her, a dog, and a man pointing the way ahead. In the foreground two more figures pause by a pile of cut branches. Nothing on the panel gives a year, and the museum leaves it undated. Janneck did sign it, at lower right, with F. C. Janneck fe., short for the Latin fecit, made it.
