Four Saints and Blesseds: Saint Emygdius
Details
The story
Emygdius, or Emidio, is a local saint rather than a widely known one. An early bishop said to have been martyred near Ascoli Piceno, he became the patron of that city and the saint the towns of the Marche called on against earthquakes, which struck the region often. Placing him among the four marks the panels as made for this corner of Italy, for people who knew him as one of their own. He is shown, as tradition asks, holding a small model of the walled town set in his care.
