The story

This is a wall. In the autumn of 1912 Franz Marc and his wife stopped in Bonn on the way home from Paris, where they and their friend August Macke had gone round the galleries and called on Robert Delaunay in his studio. In Macke's Bonn studio the two painters put this Paradise straight onto the plaster, in tempera and oil, with no priming and no preparation of the surface. They divided the work. Marc took Adam, the animals and most of the landscape, and Macke is thought to have painted Eve and the costumed figures to the right of centre. It stayed on that wall for 68 years. In 1980 the painted plaster was cut out of the house and moved to the museum in Münster.
