The Four Elements: Earth

Earth carries a horn of plenty heaped with fruit, the traditional sign of the land's abundance. Before the most recent restoration, finished in 2014, these wall canvases were not seriously damaged, but they had been painted over several times, and the canvas was stained and strongly yellowed. Taking those layers away brought back the cool greys and creams Pellegrini used to make a flat painting look like a sculpted figure standing in a stone niche.
