Musée de Cahors Henri-Martin

This small museum in the old bishop's palace of Cahors is built around one painter. Henri Martin, a Neo-Impressionist who worked in soft dabs of colour, loved the hills and rivers of the surrounding Quercy country, and Cahors holds the largest public collection of his work, more than 50 pieces, from decorative panels to landscapes of the Lot valley.

His paintings arrived in 1970, and the museum took his name. Around them it keeps a mixed local collection: regional archaeology, works by other Quercy artists, and mementoes of Léon Gambetta, the republican statesman born in the town. After a long renovation the Henri Martin rooms reopened in bright, plainly hung galleries.
