Boulevard a Parigi

La storia
Munch first reached Paris in 1889 on a Norwegian state grant and spent a few weeks in Leon Bonnat's studio before his father died and he moved out to Saint-Cloud. He kept returning. Through the winter of 1896 and into 1897 he was living in the city, showing at the Salon des Independants and working with the printer Auguste Clot on colour lithographs, among them the programme for Ibsen's Peer Gynt at the Theatre de l'Oeuvre. The Munch Museum dates this boulevard across 1898 to 1900, which puts the canvas on either side of the point where he stopped living there and went on painting the place anyway. Their catalogue number for it is M 443.
