이야기
Cezanne was 49 in 1888, painting on the Marne east of Paris. His father, a banker in Aix, had died two years earlier and left him money, so nothing obliged him to sell anything. Very little was selling in any case. He had not exhibited with the Impressionists since 1877 and would not get a show of his own until 1895. Auguste Pellerin, who made his fortune manufacturing margarine, started buying him in 1899, and something like 150 Cezannes passed through his hands over the years, this canvas among them. The Art Gallery of New South Wales bought it in 2008 for 16.2 million Australian dollars, the first Cezanne to enter the collection.
