이야기
The park behind this gate was laid out in the 1750s around a small chateau built for the marquis de Voyer d'Argenson, and by 1887 the village around it, Asnieres, had become a Sunday suburb a short train ride from the Gare Saint-Lazare, with boat clubs and riverside restaurants on one bank and factory chimneys on the other. Van Gogh walked out there through that spring and summer from his brother Theo's flat in Montmartre, usually to meet Emile Bernard, a painter in his teens whose parents lived in Asnieres and let him work in a hut in their garden. He painted the place again and again over those months, the park, the eating houses, the bridges and the riverbank. This canvas is in Jerusalem because a collector in Paris, Ignace Hellenberg, left it to the State of Israel in memory of his parents.
