Der Park des Caillebotte-Anwesens in Yerres
Details
Die Geschichte
The park in the title belonged to the painter's family. His father, who had grown rich supplying cloth to the army, bought the property at Yerres, about 20 kilometres south-east of Paris, in 1860 as a summer house. The father died in 1874, and the summers after that are the ones Caillebotte painted, close to 80 canvases of the river, the rowing boats, the kitchen garden and the grounds. This is one of them, from 1875. That same year the Salon refused his Floor Scrapers, and the Impressionists showed it instead the following spring. The brothers sold Yerres in 1879, soon after their mother died. The town bought the property back in 1973, and the park is open to visitors today.
