The story
Around 1910 Elena Guro grew tired of the city as a subject, just as it was becoming the favourite theme of her Futurist friends. According to her husband, the painter Mikhail Matyushin, from then on she stayed in the countryside from spring until autumn. Nature, felt almost as something sacred, is one of the constant themes of her poems and prose. The museum dates this small picture, about 20 by 24 centimetres, to around 1910, the moment of that turn.
