이야기

For once Turner left the storms and shipwrecks alone. This is just an ordinary English road at dawn in the cold, hoar frost on the ground, labourers at work on a ditch, a stagecoach coming up in the distance, the light low and grey. He is said to have based it on a coach journey through Yorkshire, and even the horse was drawn from one of his own. When he showed it at the Royal Academy in 1813 it was among his most admired pictures of the year. The girl in the fur stole has long been thought to be Turner's daughter Evelina, though he never said so, and scholars still argue about whether he would have placed her there in plain sight.
